One day, a friend of mine to whom I had read the cards several months ago sent me a message on Facebook. She was wondering about the reading and in particular about my interpretation of the Moon at a specific point. She said she wanted to understand why my interpretation of the Moon was rather negative. She said she had done a lot of research and read articles and what not and could not find the exact same way of describing the effects and the meaning of the Moon. Nothing she read really agreed with me.
I explained to her the different meanings that the Moon card can have (ok, some of them, because I could write an entire book about this one card if you let me go on!) such as being the symbol of creativity, the arts or even maternity or your unconscious relations with your mother. It can also be there for someone who is a Cancer. It can be rumours, people who talk behind people’s backs. And so on.
But that all of this did not matter as much as the cards that were around it at the time of the reading. And let’s not forget the energy in the room at this very moment. The Moon, to me, is a complicated card. One with many layers and shades of blue. Some are good, some or not, some are in between. It can be a fantastic card when giving you a warning. It can also be fascinating when looking into someone’s relations to their family. And of course, you want to see it if the consultant is an artist! Is the Moon a bad card? No. Definitely not. Because no Tarot card is a bad card. Not even the Tower, which is famous for being the card of break ups, loss, the end of anything and even death. Because sometimes ending something, whether it is a job or a relationship in which we were stuck too long, is a very positive thing…a blessing in disguise. In the Tarot just like in our everyday life, we should never forget the context. The card that comes before an the card that comes right after. And only by keeping the big picture in mind will we be able to truly understand the card we’re looking at right now.
To think that some people out there claim Tarot is simplistic 😉
